600 Wall Street
Seattle, Washington
This mixed-use residential project located at 600 Wall Street sits at the nexus of several downtown Seattle neighborhoods and transportation corridors. The rich, urban context of this small but prominent site yields many opportunities, along with substantial spatial, political, and market constraints. The primary design challenge is to make the most of these opportunities in creating an iconic pedestrian refuge that integrates the building with the surrounding roads, rapidly evolving neighborhoods and city-designated “Green Streets.”
While not an official Seattle Green Street, this project embraces the principles of the program in its pursuit of open space and place-making at the street level. Unusually wide sidewalks and enlarged street corners make way for dense plantings of distinctive vegetation, sculptural stone benches, and engaging paving materials. The resulting design creates an inviting destination on an otherwise busy thoroughfare. |
