After a brief battle with cancer, Robert Neal Shrosbree, 58, passed away on Friday, December 30, surrounded by his family.
Bob was a landscape architect who enthusiastically shaped places for people, leaving his mark on projects all over Seattle, throughout the Pacific Northwest and abroad. Bob's significant presence in the design community is marked by a recent induction into the ASLA Council of Fellows. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him professionally and personally.
Bob's dedication to the practice of landscape architecture was underscored by his ongoing leadership and commitment to ASLA, AIA, landscape architectural education and the broader design community—serving on boards and committees, lecturing, mentoring and promoting the profession. He was also a passionate supporter of disadvantaged communities in his Seattle neighborhood.
Bob was a caring father, son, brother, and friend. To many, he will be remembered as an articulate and insightful mentor, who was playful and always purposeful in his thoughts and actions. His adventurous spirit and keen observation thrilled and energized all who knew him. His sense of humor was woven into every aspect of his life. He kept everyone laughing, even in the most difficult of times.
His children will always remember the wonderful times they spent with him—working on art and design projects (i.e. raking the cedars), playing music, camping, sailing, and traveling. One of their favorite memories is going on errands with their father, especially trips to the hardware store. His wit, intelligence, curiosity, and imagination turned the mundane into a memorable event.
Bob was born in La Jolla, California, and grew up in Boise, Idaho. He is survived by his mother Gloria Shrosbree; his son and daughter-in-law John and Mia Shrosbree; daughters Elizabeth and Katherine Shrosbree; granddaughter Mary Shrosbree; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Kathy Shrosbree, niece Gyan Shrosbree; and his close friend Dagmar Vanselow. He is also survived by his aunts and numerous cousins, as well as his extended family at Site Workshop of Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Childhaven of Seattle.
A memorial service will be held this Friday, January 6th at 7:30pm at the Olympic Sculpture Park Pavilion.
