Harrison Memorial Hospital Roof Deck
Bremerton, Washington
Harrison Memorial Hospital undertook an expansion of its Bremerton campus, adding new surgery, lab, exam, and office facilities. This included redevelopment of site entries, parking, streetscape, service areas, and an extensive roof garden. The design also included the development of planting, paving, walls, and lighting to provide a new form while ensuring consistency between existing and new facilities.
Adjacent to waiting rooms and exam areas, the new roof garden expresses two primary ideas: as a metaphor for a northwest shoreline it evokes the marine environment of this waterfront community in form and use of materials; and as an interpretive component it exclusively utilizes plants with medicinal qualities.
