Pathways Park: The Eli's Park Project

Client: Seattle Parks and Recreation
Partners: The Eli's Park Project Community Team & Teen Advisory Council

Location: Seattle, WA

Led by a highly dedicated team of community members, the Eli’s Park Project aims to bring people of all ages and abilities together for health, wellness, play and community in a nature-based setting.

Situated in a pocket of localized diversity, the existing Burke-Gilman Playground Park is neighbored by affordable housing, a developmental preschool, the Ronald McDonald House and Seattle Children’s Hospital. In its current condition, community members and visitors are underserved due to a lack of amenities, aging equipment, inaccessible surfaces and a subpar restroom.

Through an iterative and far-reaching engagement process, the design team developed a concept plan framed around creating a welcoming experience for all. The Parallel Pathways concept celebrates our togetherness, while honoring our differences. Two pathways encircle the park, winding together in parallel experiences of places and play, providing choices and places to come together.
