The new Green Lake Community Boathouse will include a more equitable connection to the lake shore. By removing existing walls and replacing steep pathways with accessible routes, people of all abilities will be able to enjoy the waterfront. A generous, open stair, as well as an ADA compliant route, will more strongly connect Green Lake Trail to the shore. By introducing an overlook with lighting and seating, the public will be able to safely exit the trail and observe or participate in the vibrant activity of the Green Lake rowing and paddling community. Along the south side of the new Boathouse, a series of bioretention plantings will capture and filter stormwater runoff from the building and trail. Working in conjunction with the Friends of Olmsted Parks, as well as Seattle Parks and Recreation, the plant palette will follow the Green Lake Vegetation Management Guidelines and take cues from Olmsted’s original scheme. This project is targeting LEED Gold status.
