Raised on the beaches and waters of Puget Sound, Ryan’s passion for design stems from his fascination with the natural world. Through boating, hiking, and playing in the woods, Ryan developed an appreciation for the systems and elements that shape our region. He also found great joy in crafting and assembling anything from tree forts to wooden boats. At the University of Washington, he discovered the convergence of nature and design in landscape architecture.

From public parks, to urban spaces, to rooftop gardens, the borrowed wisdom that guides Ryan today is this: to preserve the natural, wild places, we must make our built environments beautiful, engaging, ecologically functional, and equitable.  This principle informs all of his work.

In his free time, Ryan is often sailing, hiking, cooking, or building furniture.
